July 1st, 2008 California bans Cell Phones while driving.

Effective midnight PST, California will become the latest State to ban the use of cell phones w/o hands free devices, while driving. Quite ironic since the majority of time spent in a car in California, (LA that is), is done sitting idle on the multi lane parking lots known as freeways.

How soon until adjusting the radio while driving or checking the rear view mirror while driving becomes illegal? Seriously folks, are we going too far here?

I have yet to hear of someone being ticketed for applying their makeup or reading the morning paper while driving, yet I see it done everyday.

I'll bet we won't have long to worry about being ticketed for illegal cell phone use while driving anyway. With the rapid expansion of technology, pretty soon, phones will automatically be disabled once a car has its motor running unless some hands free device has been activated. Big Brother will safely protect us all. Comforting isn't it?

I think the question is whether or not you are moving at the time. Putting on lipstick or running a comb through your hair at a stop light is different than doing it while in motion.
